Hurt people don’t hurt people; bad people hurt people. (Platitudes grind my gears. Just because something rhymes doesn’t make it true.) 

Every movie has a hero and a villain. What they both have in common is that someone caused them pain. The hero says, because I suffered, I’m going to make sure that nobody else suffers like I did. The bad guy, however, says that because I suffered, I am going to make sure that other people suffer just as much as I did. (We’ll cover the other 2 sons another time.)

No matter what happened to you, there is no default to then go and hurt people. You get to choose whether you are going to be the hero or the villain. Free will and all that.
